Handmade Happiness

Nothing beats a homemade gift. Especially when you tailor said gift to the recipient! Sure, it may be easier to pick up a bottle of wine or a candle, but how special would you feel if someone took the time and energy to make you a delicious treat?

Chocolate Truffles

These chocolate truffles are an incredibly simple and easily adaptable recipe. With just three ingredients: chocolate, cream, and liqueur, they couldn’t be easier! Here’s what you need to know:

Pick Your Chocolate

Whether they’re for someone else or for yourself, the first step is choosing what type of chocolate you’ll use for your base. Dark, milk, or white chocolate all make delicious options. Choose your (or their!) favorite or consider doing a mixture.

Pick Your Flavor

My favorite way to personalize these truffles is by adding flavored liqueur! There are countless options, but some of my favorites include:

  • Amaretto
  • Cointreau or any other orange flavored liqueur
  • Bailey’s
  • Kalúha
  • Peppermint Schnapps

Roll Away

The last way to personalize these tasty treats is be selecting what to roll them in. You can choose any chopped nut like almonds, walnuts, pecans, or pistachios, or else shredded coconut or cocoa powder. All make delicious options!

Ingredients

  • 12 oz chocolate chips or chunks, select your favorite between white, milk, or dark
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 Tbsp liqueur of choosing, such as Amaretto, Bailey's, Kaluha, or Peppermint Schnapps (see note for non-alcoholic version)
  • 1/2-1 cup desired topping, such as shredded coconut, crushed pecans, almonds, walnut, pistachios, or cocoa powder

Instructions

  • In a medium glass bowl, add chocolate.
  • Heat cream in microwave or on stovetop. You want it to be just simmering, as it will be melting the chocolate. Pour over chocolate chips, allowing to sit for 1 minute. Use a spatula to stir the mixture until chocolate is completely melted.
  • Add liqueur and stir until combined. Allow to cool slightly, then cover with either a plate or plastic wrap. Transfer to refrigerator for 2 hours.
  • Using a small spoon, scoop mixture and roll in to balls (you can opt to use disposable gloves to keep things extra sanitary if you're giving these as a gift!).
  • Roll in desired topping, transferring to a wax paper lined plate or baking sheet. Chill until firm.

Notes

  • If you'd like to keep these truffles alcohol free, you can substitute 1 tablespoon of milk in place of the liqueur.
  • Alternatively, if you're wanting to use a food-grade essential oil or extract, still use the 1 tablespoon of milk.
  • If you're using a food-grade essential oil, I would start with 1-2 drops depending on the potency of the oil. It should be plenty!
  • If you're using an extract, use 1/2 teaspoon.
