How To Make A Lavender French 75

The French 75 was created in Paris, with an initial rendition dating back to 1915. It features gin, lemon, sugar, and champagne. 

To make this Lavender French 75, you will need:

The lavender flowers are infuse a simple syrup, which is equal parts water and sugar that are brought to a boil and then cooled. This liquid replaces traditional sugar in many beverages, yielding a sweet liquid that eliminates the grittiness of using the ingredient pure. 

To make one cocktail:

  1. Combine gin, lemon juice, and lavender simple syrup in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously to combine. 
  2. Strain in to a champagne flute and stop with champagne.
  3. Garnish with a dried lavender sprig and lemon slice if you wish!

This Lavender French 75 is the perfect cocktail for Spring! It’s light and refreshing, and so effervescent. The lavender simple syrup is super easy to make, meaning a fancy drink is always within reach. This would be a lovely addition to your Easter table!

Ingredients

For the lavender simple syrup:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 Tbsp culinary grade lavender flowers

To make:

  • 1 oz gin
  • 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz lavender simple syrup recipe below
  • Champagne or Prosecco, to top

Instructions

For the lavender simple syrup:

  • In a medium saucepan, add sugar and water, heating oven medium heat. Swirl the pan sporadically until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
  • Add dried lavender flowers, allowing to steep for at least 20 minutes.
  • Strain flowers, and pour simple syrup in to a glass jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to one week.

To make:

  • In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, add gin, lemon juice, and lavender simple syrup. Shake vigorously to combine for at least 10 seconds.
  • Pour in to a coup glass or champagne flute, and top with champagne or prosecco. Garnish with lavender sprig.

  1. I had something similar at the MN State Fair, but it did not have alcohol in it, I think it was a french lavender lemonade. Would I just add more lemon juice and water? Thank you

    1. Hi Jeanne! Sounds delicious! I would start with a ratio of 1:1:1 of water, lavender simple syrup, and lemon juice. Based on your tastes, you can dilute the mixture with more water if it’s too sweet or sour, or increase the simple syrup and lemon juice if you prefer it more sweet or tart. I hope you enjoy – this sounds delicious!
